Klayman’s Lawsuit Against Zuckerberg and Facebook More Relevant Than Ever
(Washington, D.C., May 17, 2011). Today, Larry Klayman, the founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch, issued the following statement in the wake of the recent Palestinian provocative incursions into Israeli territory, which resulted in violence and death.
“A few weeks ago, I filed suit in Washington, D.C., against Mark Zuckerberg and his Facebook for endangering his fellow Jews and others by allowing postings by radical Palestinians calling for a so-called “Third Infitada.” These postings called for the killing of Jews and those that support the state of Israel. They remained up on Facebook for many days and allowed radical Palestinians to mobilize.
As an activist who opposes a Palestinian state on the West Bank, and as a Jew, I was and am put in danger by Zuckerberg’s and Facebook’s pandering to these Palestinians. And, this was not just pandering, since when Facebook’s circulation increases, as it has during the “Arab Spring,” so too does its value. Zuckerberg has been marketing shares in Facebook through Goldman Sachs. So his actions in not taking down the postings immediately, and even in the face of requests by the Government of Israel, were obviously not accidental.
We now see the “fruits” of how social media can be used in a way that harms persons and endangers nations. While Facebook can do much good, Zuckerberg has a responsibility to the public to allow its use in a lawful manner. Calling for death to Jews and others obviously crosses the line and that’s why he and his company have been sued.
Zuckerberg and Facebook recently removed the case, first filed in the DC Superior Court, to federal court and are now seeking to transfer the case to San Francisco. These efforts at delay will not deter me in my quest to hold them accountable.”
